The intention of the HOME in BRIDPORT PROJECT is to help create local employment while celebrating local life in a beautiful rural land and seascape. Its beginning point is always within building trust and friendship through cultural work – film, photography, music, literature, theatre, fine arts, agri-culture, growing food and helping people to learn about preparing healthy inexpensive meals.
We in the Southwest now live within a high unemployment, low wage economy for much of the population.
In West Dorset , 47% of the rural population are either in poverty or just surviving.
The HOME in BRIDPORT PROJECT aims to help provide cultural, educational and practical pathways for people
to begin to look away from the traditional economy towards creating local self-sufficiency and a better life.
Our programmes are based upon respecting every individual, regardless of class, education, race, religion or ability/disability and forming trusting relationships. People can and do rise to the best within themselves when given an opportunity.
So far we have been able to deliver what we have promised.
One of our main problem is people’s sense of defeat, depression and isolation. In our step-by-step, person-by-person work,
we are building a small, evolving community of people who want change and are willing to work for it.
We are in continual flux, open-minded and delighted to have people offer ideas and skills to help.
