THE nEW EDIBLE GARDEN AT bRIDPORT pRIMARY
1. We have been able to purchase a mower, strimmer, hand trowels and forks, loppers, rake and broom.
2. J C Phillips kindly donated 2 tons of top soil to create a new bed for the raspberries and two more raised beds.
3. Wessex Water have also kindly given us a grant to pay for 3 new water butts and guttering. As a thank you we will be holding a "Water Event" in September which will host a variety of activities open to the public, pupils and staff from Bridport Primary School.
4. We have been able to pay for a part time professional gardener to help us in the garden. He has built us an inviting potting-up area and shelving for the polytunnel.
5. Bradpole Parish Council has donated a Victoria Plum Tree in commemoration of the King's Coronation. We planted it on the 5th May with pupils from the School Council.
6. Children from 2 classes visited the garden to launch their Mini Beast Project.
7. Springtail Farm visited the school and held a cooking event covering ancient civilizations and using an ancient devise called a quern for baking flat breads in the school kitchen.
8. As part of Year 5's Organic Farming Project they visited the garden to plant seeds and seedlings, pond dipping and water analysis, digging and mixing soil with manure, soil analysis and "soiling the undies" (a project where a pair of undies was buried in the soil and left for some weeks before being dug up to see what remains of them!)
